Darren Selby: A Personal History My name is Darren Selby, I am 33 years old. My earliest memories of music started at the age of 5 on a family visit to my cousins. His parents had recently bought him an electronic organ, and had invited us round for a demo. I was astounded by the sound created from one instrument, and was captivated by all of the switches and lights, it looked like the cockpit of an aeroplane! It was at that moment I realised that I wanted to learn how to play the keyboards. My brother and I soon nagged Mum and Dad into buying us an electronic organ, which came as a Christmas present soon after. Since then I have been mainly self taught, but had a little tuition along the way. My main inspiration to improve was listening to my cousin, who had an amazing ability to play all types of music. By the age of 13, I performed regular local gigs and entered various talent contests. In 1990 I was awarded 3rd place in the Star Discoveries competition. I mainly concentrate on Rock & Pop, with a little Country thrown in for good measure! Varying from the Golden Oldies, right up to the current charts. My style is influenced by Elton John and Richard Claderman, being amongst my favourite musicians. I have been involved with various studios during my musical career, and have recorded several tracks along the way. My aim is to form a successful band, to gig locally. Ideally I am looking for a lead vocalist/Front person, and a lead guitarist.
